GeoLog Pro · User Manual
GeoLog Pro runs on Windows and Linux desktops and Android devices. Both apps share the same project data and sync over your company's server. This manual walks through every screen — from first login to publishing a strip log.
01 · getting started
GeoLog Pro works without an internet connection. Sign in once while online to cache your credentials; after that the app works anywhere on-site — underground, remote drill pad, or anywhere with no signal.
STEP 01
Launch GeoLog Pro from your desktop. Enter the username and password your administrator issued. The connectivity pill at the top of the form shows whether the app can reach the server — green means your session will sync immediately; amber means offline mode.
OFFLINE MODE
If the server is unreachable the app logs you in against the local SQLite cache. All data you log is queued and pushed to the server the next time the device reconnects. Nothing is ever lost.
02 · projects
A project groups all the drill holes, logging sheets, assay results, and synced data for one exploration programme. You can have as many projects as your licence allows.
STEP 02
Tap the + button on the Projects screen. Give the project a name, assign a field season, and optionally link a prospect. The project appears locally straight away — it syncs to the server in the background.
STEP 03
The project hub on desktop shows every project with its hole count, metres drilled, last sync time, and sync status badge. Click any row to open it. Use the Push to cloud button to force-sync a project to the VPS server.
03 · drill holes
Every logging sheet belongs to a drill hole. Holes live inside a project and carry the collar metadata — type, azimuth, dip, planned depth, assigned rig, and geologist.
STEP 04
Open a project then tap Create hole (mobile) or click + Create hole (desktop). Enter the hole ID, prospect, drill type (DD, RC, RAB), azimuth, dip, and planned depth. Save — the hole appears in the register instantly.
04 · ddr logging
The DDR module captures core recovery and rock-quality data row by row. Each row represents one core run — the app calculates TCR, SCR, and RQD automatically from the pieces you enter.
STEP 05
Select Diamond Drill Recovery from the module menu, then tap Logging log. The spreadsheet-style grid opens. Press Enter or Tab to move between cells — the last column appends a new row automatically so you never have to reach for a button mid-log.
STEP 06
Enter the FROM and TO depths, then the number of pieces ≥10 cm (for RQD) and the solid core length. The app validates each cell in real time — red ERR cells block saving until the value is corrected. Lithology, comments, and recovery percentage complete the row.
STEP 07
Switch to the desktop app to see the DDR logging grid with all runs side by side. Every column is sortable. The footer row shows the total interval, average core recovery, and average RQD for the hole.
05 · structural core log
The Structural Core Log (SCL) records joint and defect data for geotechnical assessment. Each row captures a depth interval, defect type, infill type, origin, and orthogonal reliability rating.
STEP 08
Select Structural Core Log from the module menu and open the Logging grid tab. Press Add row or hit Enter on the last cell. The Codes button opens the full codebook so you can look up defect types, origins, and infill codes without leaving the grid.
06 · strip log
The strip log renders your DDR and SCL data as a scaled geological column — the same format geologists use in technical reports. It updates live as you log.
STEP 09
Tap Strip log from the hole's module menu. The column renders at 1:50 scale by default. Pinch to zoom, tap any interval to see the logged values, and use the scale picker in the top-right to switch between 1:50, 1:100, and 1:200.
07 · analytics
The analytics dashboard aggregates all logged data into charts that update in real time. Use it for daily production reporting, rock-quality monitoring, and structural geology summaries.
STEP 10
Open Analytics & trends from the Insights section of the sidebar. The RQD depth profile plots rock quality against hole depth with ISRM band overlays — anything below 25% is flagged in red. The production chart shows metres logged per day and can be split by rig or geologist.
08 · prospect map
The map view plots every drill collar on a satellite or topographic basemap. Tap a pin to open the hole's detail page.
STEP 11
Tap Map from the Insights menu. Collar pins are coloured by status — planned, in progress, or complete. Switch between satellite, topo, and street basemaps using the layer picker. Tap any pin to jump straight to that hole's logging sheets.
09 · sync & cloud
GeoLog Pro uses a last-write-wins sync engine. Changes made offline are queued and pushed as soon as the device reaches the server. Desktop and mobile share the same data model.
Enable Auto-push in Profile → Sync settings to have the app push every change to the server in the background without any manual action.
From the Project hub click Sync next to any project. If your VPS session has expired the app will prompt you to re-authenticate before pushing.
Your company can self-host the GeoLog backend on your own infrastructure. Point the app at your server URL in Profile → Server settings.
10 · user management
Super admins can create accounts, assign roles, reset passwords, and revoke access from the User Management panel. Changes sync to all devices on the next pull.
STEP 12
Open User Management from the bottom of the left sidebar. The table shows every registered user with their role, sync status, and last-seen time. Use the Actions column to reset a password, toggle the disabled flag, or change the role. Licence seats are tracked per device — super_admin accounts are always licence-exempt.
STEP 13
On the Android app tap Admin from the bottom navigation bar. You can view all users, toggle active/disabled status, and force a password-change flag so the user must set a new password at next login.
11 · marketplace
The marketplace is a library of ready-made logging-sheet column schemas built and shared by geologists worldwide. Import a schema in one click to match an existing company standard or to bootstrap a new module.
STEP 14
Click Marketplace in the Insights section of the sidebar. Search by name or filter by module type. Click Import on any template to apply its column schema to the currently open module — your existing data is not affected. The Publish tab lets you share your own custom schemas with the community.
12 · profile & settings
The Profile screen is where you configure the backend server URL, wire up an AI provider for core-photo classification, and manage your account.
Paste your Anthropic or OpenAI API key under Profile → AI assistant. The key is stored only on this device and never synced. Once saved, open any core photo to get an AI lithology suggestion.
If your company self-hosts GeoLog, paste the server URL under Profile → Server. Hit Test & save — the app pings the server and stores the URL permanently.
Clear all local data permanently wipes projects, holes, logs, photos, and the sync queue from this device. Data already on the server is safe and re-downloads on next login.
